Wax Melt Safety
Soy wax melts are to be used in a wax melter or oil burner to release the fragrances in your home or workplace. Although wax melts are wickless, and you don’t need to lit them up directly, they still pose some risks during their use. Please follow these wax melts safety instructions to familiarise yourself with any potential risks. These risks are associated with electrical melters or oil burners that require tea light.
Wax Melts safety instructions
Never leave electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner unattended
Before leaving the room make sure that the tea light is completely out and the wick ember is no longer glowing. Switch off the electric wax melter and unplug from the mains when not in use.
Never use an electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner as a night light or while you may fall asleep
Electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner used as a night light poses a risk of the trip, slip or fall. The wax melter can become too hot during your sleep and that may cause further damage.
Never place electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner on or near anything that can catch fire
Keep electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner away from any furniture, bedding, carpets, drapes, books, paper or any other flammable items.
Do not move an electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner when lit. Do not move it straight away after extinguishing the tea light
Wax will remain hot after the tea light has been extinguished or your burner has been switched off. Hot wax can cause burns. Wait until liquid wax will fully solidify.
Place the electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner on a level, flat, cool, heat-resistant surface
If used on non-heat resistant surface damage may occur if the wax melter/burner is used without a protective plate, tray or similar product.
Do not use metal objects to clean out the wax. Do not apply excessive pressure when cleaning or removing wax. Do not place the burner in the fridge/freezer
This may crack and damage the electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner.
Keep wax electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner out of the reach of children and pets
Do not place electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner where children and pets can reach or knocked them over.
Don’t place electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner near a source of heat
High temperatures around the electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner can pose higher risks to itself and the items around it.
Keep the wax pool clear of matches and debris
Flammable objects in the wax pool, such as matches, insects or flammable decorations can ignite and cause the wax to overheat.
Do not place electric wax melter or non-electric oil burner in a draught
This will help prevent rapid or uneven burning, soothing, and excessive dripping.
Do not add water or fragrance oils to the bowl under any circumstances
This can cause the wax to splatter or the container to break.
Always ensure that you do not overfill your bowl
Hot wax can spill over and this can cause burns and damage to the surrounding surfaces.
Do not allow the pool of wax to completely evaporate so the top bowl becomes dry whilst a tea-light is still lit
This could cause the wax melt burner to scorch and (or) smoke.
Only use standard sized tea lights (burn time is approx. 4hrs). Never use the larger 8hr tea lights
This may overheat and damage the oil burner.
