5 Wellbeing Trends to Improve Your Physical and Mental Health

As we look to the future, we must pay attention to our physical and mental well-being. Fortunately, many emerging trends can help us improve our health. From natural healing remedies such as essential oils and aromatherapy to mindfulness practices and nutrition changes, fitness activities, and modern technology for tracking progress – there are plenty of options available for improving both physical and mental health. In this article, I will discuss five trending approaches so you can start incorporating them into your life today!

Mental Health

Mindfulness practices are a trend that is gaining popularity in the wellness sphere. These practices are essential for improving mental health and include activities such as breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga. Mindful meditation can help reduce stress levels, improve concentration and focus, manage emotions better, enhance self-awareness and more. Research has shown that regular mindfulness practice can reduce anxiety and depression symptoms and improve the overall quality of life [1].

I’m still in the early stages of experimenting with breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga; however, I can already recognize that these practices help me remain aware and mindful of my surroundings by actively using all my senses. Additionally, I have become more conscious about what thoughts come into my head during this process. Morning yoga helps me to start my day energized, while evening breathing exercises and meditation help me relax and fall asleep faster after a long day.

Smart Nutrition

Good nutrition is essential for maintaining physical health and optimal well-being. Eating a variety of natural, whole foods rich in essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants can help boost energy levels, improve mental focus, reduce stress, and even prevent diseases. In addition to focusing on eating nutritious foods, it is also essential that we avoid processed, refined and sugary items.

I have adopted an 80:20 eating routine, which is based on the idea that 80% of my daily food intake should be nutritious and natural, while 20% can consist of whatever I want. This way, I can enjoy treats without feeling guilty about indulging in them. I have also become more conscious about the types of food I buy. I tend to purchase organic and natural items as often as possible and ensure that most of what I buy is fresh, unprocessed and without added sugars or preservatives.

Fitness and Movement

Often, physical exercise can be overlooked when it comes to wellness. However, regular physical activity is essential for both our physical and mental health. Whether a marathon or just a simple walk, getting moving is essential for boosting energy levels and improving mood. Additionally, exercising can also help reduce stress levels and enhance sleep quality, especially when done outside in fresh air.

To be honest, physical activities are the simplest part of my routine. Whether heading to the gym, biking or hiking, I love exercising. I always make sure to get some form of physical activity at least four times a week. Additionally, I also enjoy incorporating stretching into my days as often as possible. Not only does this help me stay fit and healthy, but it also helps reduce tension and stress levels that build up during the day.

Scent Therapy

Essential oils and aromatherapy have a long history of being used as natural healing remedies. These essential oils come from plants known to contain therapeutic properties. When used in aromatherapy, these oils can be beneficial for overall well-being. Packed with terpenes, phenols, esters and other potent compounds, essential oils can directly influence our limbic system – the part of the brain that controls emotions and memories. The aromas produced by these organic elements have been known to reduce stress, improve mood, and create a sense of well-being.

Usually, I burn a candle or wax melts with essential oils whenever I’m reading a book, cooking or taking a shower for some “scent therapy”. Additionally, I inhale the essential oils directly or add them to diffusers, bathwater, and massage oils. When I’m looking for a tranquil atmosphere or want to reduce stress, essential oils are my go-to. Depending on the mood I want to achieve, I select an oil or a combination of oils known to promote the mood I am after.

Technology and Our Health

Modern technology can also be used to support mental health goals, such as tracking mood, setting reminders for self-care practices, or connecting with friends and family members. There are now a variety of apps and websites designed to help us manage stress levels, build healthy habits and nurture relationships with those around us.

For example, I like to use the app “Aura”, which provides personalized anxiety and stress relief programs, tracking features, and reminders for essential self-care activities, including yoga, mindfulness and gratitude exercises. To stay on top of my daily nutritional goals, I use “MyFitnessPal” app. It’s been a great help in keeping me accountable for maintaining a healthy lifestyle!

These five essential wellness strategies are essential tools to help us achieve optimal physical and mental health. Essential oils, aromatherapy, mindful practice, nutrition, fitness, movement activities and technology can be powerful weapons to enhance our overall well-being when used right. So, let’s make sure we use these tools for the greater good of our physical and mental health.
